Biography

 

Praised for her “shimmering tone,” award-winning soprano Leslie Katter is known for her “effortless high notes” and “captivating performances” across a wide range of musical styles. Most recently, she recorded a full-length album of Gordon Getty’s Plump Jack under the baton of Maestro Nicole Paiement and made her film debut in the feature-length screen adaptation of the work, performing two principal roles, Boy and Clarence; the release is forthcoming. In the film, her vivid theatrical instincts and elastic expressivity are captured in close-up.

Ms. Katter has appeared with Ars Minerva as Olimpia in Domenico Freschi’s Olimpia Vendicata, under the baton of Maestro Matthew Dirst. She has performed with Lamplighters Music Theatre as Lady Lilette Sauvoirfaire in Burwell and Sasser’s world premiere By Georges!, under the baton of Maestro Mary Chun, and as Sibella Hallward in Steven Lutvak’s A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, under the baton of Maestro Brett Strader. She made her role debut with West Edge Opera as Aveline Mortimer in its production of Kevin Puts’s Elizabeth Cree, under the baton of Maestro Robert Mollicone. Additional engagements include Brecht’s The Threepenny Opera with West Edge Opera, under the baton of Maestro David Möschler, as well as performances with Lamplighters Music Theatre and the Handel Opera Project. Ms. Katter made her professional debut as Die Königin der Nacht in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with Waffle Opera.

On the concert stage, Ms. Katter performs with ensembles throughout Northern California and along the West Coast. This year, she will make her debut as soprano soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Willamette Master Chorus and Orchestra, and she will return to the Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra to perform as soprano soloist in Dvořák’s Requiem.

A native Oregonian, Leslie Katter earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from Willamette University and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She is a recipient of the Encouragement Award from the Washington District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and has performed in master classes with artists including Frederica von Stade, Victoria Livengood, John Churchwell, Sheri Greenawald, Patricia Wise, and Patricia Craig, among others. She continues to study privately with the inimitable Jane Randolph.
